Beards are an odd luxury. You need to be free from certain societal/corporate restrictions to grow one. That's one reason why I like to grow mine. Periodically I like to tell the world that I can.

This doesn't mean don't bother trying anything. Just start something before you know exactly where to start. Ask someone with expertise. Make mistakes and learn from them.
